Description

Did you get astonished to see a gamut of different traditions and customs that are followed in Hinduism right from birth of a person till he/she dies. Of course you would be !! According to  Hindu religious scriptures, the ultimate goal of a human being is to attain salvation without having to fail fulfilling his/her worldly obligations. Amongst scores of rites and rituals, one vitally important ceremony is Mundan Sanskar Puja or Mundan Ceremony. This is for the first time after birth of the child that his/her head is shaved off during the Mundan Puja. The Mundan Puja is performed both for boys and girls and is an ancient ritual that is still followed religiously.

Importance and Significance of Mundan Sanskar Puja:

It is believed that by shaving the hair off while Mundan Sanskar a kid casts aside the residue of past life. Put differently, if the kid has some undesirable traits and qualities in the past, it does not still hang on the kid in his present birth. It provides the kid with an opportunity to start his/her life afresh. Another school of thought believes that it is done in order to induce higher hair growth.

It is not so that baby’s head can be shaven off in any random year. Rather Mundan Sankara has to be performed in an odd month, and in an odd year i.e. 1st, 3rd, 5th, etc. The Puja may be performed in a temple, at home, or on the banks of a sacred river.

Benefits of Mundan Puja

The reason why Mundan Puja is held in high regards is owing to the plethora of benefits it offer including:

  • It weeds out the unpleasant qualities that the baby might have had in his/her past life
  • It increases longevity
  • It guarantees a promising future for the kid
  • It shields the kid from negativity
