The journey
Like all other traditional wedding, parents play a crucial role in Arya Samaj wedding as well and marriage is fixed with their consent. As the community does not believe in idol worshipping, Arya Samaj wedding is performed with chanting of vedic mantras wherein fire and other elements are witnessed. Their marriages are known for its simplicity.
In an Arya Samaj wedding, the mantras are chanted as well as their meaning is made understood to couple so that the couple can relate themselves to the meaning and significance of the wedding mantras.
This wedding differs with traditional Hindu wedding in that neither it includes too many rituals or ceremony extends over a long period of time.
Within an hour the wedding ceremony is winded up and expenses incurred on the marriage is very low as compared to the normal traditional Hindu wedding. In fact, there is no such thing as pre-wedding rituals.
Once the marriage is fixed, the first ritual ‘Madhuparka’ is performed which symbolizes a happy married life. In this ritual, the bride offers water three times to groom, which he then sprinkles on his feet, over his body and drinks it on the third time.
