Lord Shiva is omnipresent, omnipotent and omniscient, his divine form embraces and extends far beyond all known and unknown galaxies and universes. Ati rudra mahayagya is a very important form of worship of Lord Shiva. It is believed that he is easy to please as compared to other deities and an embodiment of compassion, infinite mercy and love. Thinking constantly about Shiva and worshiping him helps a person garner abundant health, wealth, education and eventually salvation.
Rud means sorrow. Ra means destroyer. Rudra is the one who helps us attain unlimited joy by destroying our sorrows. Ati Rudra Mahayagya holds a very significant place in vedic literature and in the practice of vedic traditions. Mostly it is recited by the Vedic Pundits. Sri Rudram is in two parts. The first part, chapter 16 of the Yajurveda, is known as Namakam as the word ‘Namo’ has been frequently used in it. Likewise, owing to the repeated use of word “Chame” in the chapter 18, it is also known as Chamakam.
In his treatise, ‘Maharnava Krama Vipaka’ Sage Satapatha listed four types of Abhisekh procedures compatible with Vedic and scriptural lore which are
- Rudram
- Ekdasa Rudram
- Maha Rudram
- Ati Rudram
Out of the four, Ati Rudram is the potent one. Keeping an eye on Lok Kalyana (good of all mankind) and to ensure universal peace and prosperity Ati Mahayagya is performed.
During the performance of the Yagya, power of high magnitude is generated which even helps Yogis and Tantriks unlock mantras and have the knowledge of great magical occult secrets. The unmarried find ideal match, the sick becomes well, debts are cleared, wealth & power is showered and death is averted. Lord Shiva is the union of both male and female energies and bestows wealth, health, power and happiness upon the adorer. As Lord Shiva rules all the nine planets his propitiation leads to gains in Job, Relationship, Career, Business, Marriage and Wealth. It is believed that Lord Shiva and his consort mother Annapoorna provides all 8 types of wealth.
It is beyond human capacity to measure the benevolence of Lord Shiva and his blessings. Ati Rudra Mahayagya benefits the whole mankind and endows a person with all good virtues.
